Becoming Adolescent

Adolescent dog laying down on the grass

Adolescents can be a difficult time for dogs.  During this stage of life of your dog's life, their brain starts to change, and hormones begin coursing through their body. It is not uncommon for young dogs to start pushing the boundaries of their relationship with you.

This class will give you the tools you need to successfully navigate this stage of your dog’s life.

  • Strengthen your relationship

  • Teach your dog that stuff ‘out there’ isn’t important

  • Help your dog learn to regulate their arousal

  • Grow calmness

Trick Training

Dog performing the bow on cue trick

Did you know that all cued behaviours are tricks to your dog?

We might categorize behaviours like ‘sit’, ‘stay’, and ‘down’ as obedience behaviours and ‘spin’, ‘paws on’, and ‘high five’ as tricks but your dog doesn't know the difference!

Tricks are fun to teach and they are easily incorporated into your walks (both on and off-leash) to build your dog's mental and physical flexibility along with more focus on you.

Come with a list of tricks you would like to teach your dog. Each student will be coached based on the tricks they want to work on. During class, you will have practice time, and I will provide feedback.

Upon registration, I will provide you with a list of tricks based on what you already now and I can help you select tricks that are suitable for you and your dog.

Dog searching a box fort for food

Nosework is an amazing sport to participate in with your dog.

You aren't teaching your dog how to use their nose, (they already excel at the skill!), you are teaching them to use their nose to solve puzzles you have setup for them in the environment.

During this class, you will be:

  • Teaching your dog to work independently

  • Building hunt drive

  • Learning to observe your dog and other dogs

  • Learning how odour moves and what your dog does when they come into the target odour (we will be using food)

This class runs for 6 weeks.

Beginner Tracking

Two dogs on a path looking at a creek

This is a great sport that allows your dog to use a skill they already have to play a game that we want them to play.

All you need is to build motivation for what you want your dog to find.

Dogs don't just detect scent, they analyze it, follow it, and interpret layers of information that we cannot detect. They can identify the start of a track, whether it goes right or left, follow a track that is over 24 hours old, and not lose that track even if other people or animals have walked over the track.

This class is a beginner class that will teach your dog to follow a track that you have laid. You will learn to observe your dog as they navigate longer and longer tracks including tracks with corners.

Cooperative Care

Dog resting comfortably on a bed

The goal for the class is to teach your dog that being handled predicts good things so that you can confidently handle your dog at home, and take your dog to the vet or the groomer knowing that your dog will be comfortable with the procedures.

The course will focus on 3 key areas:

I’m ready. Learn how to read your dog, and how to empower your dog to say “yes, I’m ready” so that when you, the vet, or your groomer are handling your dog, it is clear to everyone that your dog is comfortable at each step of the interaction.

Those tools aren’t scary! Teach your dog that toenail trimmers, toothbrushes, electric trimmers, brushes, and stethoscopes actually predict good things so that when your dog is approached with one of these implements in hand, they will be relaxed and confident instead of fearful and uncertain.

Let’s do this! We will focus on a variety of basic handling procedures such as nail trimming, toothbrushing, mouth, ears and eye handling so that you will finish the class with a strong foundation upon which you can build more advanced handling skills.

This class is 30 - 45 minutes in length and will run once a week for 12 weeks

The price of this 12 week class is $357
